Financial Aid Program

North Broward Preparatory School understands that individual economic circumstances vary. We value you and your child as part of our school community, and we are committed to providing limited amounts of aid as needed. This page is designed to provide valuable information on the Financial Aid program here at North Broward, and to help you understand how it is awarded. If your family needs financial loan assistance we also invite you to explore Sallie Mae Financing a Private Loan program.

Within the limits of available funds, NBPS seeks to provide tuition assistance to qualified students that must have and maintain a GPA of 2.5, or higher. The school’s policy for determining financial need is based on the principle that both parents are responsible for the support and educational expenses of their children. We consider the assets of both parents, if living, before making the award. Both parents are expected to be gainfully employed unless there are children under the age of four years living at home. If the custodial parent has remarried, we will consider the assets of the step-parent, taking into consideration the obligations to his or her natural children.

Returning students are given preference, providing they meet all deadline dates. A family must reapply each year, and meet all the guidelines set forth by the Financial Aid committee. The committee reviews the student’s grades, citizenship, participation in the school community, and disciplinary records. Financial Aid awards are based on the financial need of the family. Parents must file an online application with the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) in Princeton, New Jersey; at sss.nais.org. They must submit a photocopy of their latest tax return with schedules, along with the last 3 months bank and credit card statements to the Business office at school. Please note that NBPS accounts must be current before a file can be reviewed.

The entire process is confidential.

SSS makes a determination of the financial need, based on the information provided to them in the Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS). They send a copy of this demonstrated need to the school. Once the file is complete with the SSS form and necessary documents, a committee reviews it, and makes a decision based on available funds in the Financial Aid budget. Every family should expect to contribute something towards their child’s education.

Procedures:

  1. Complete the School & Student Service (SSS) for Financial Aid form online using our school code 1727. You and the school should receive a report within two weeks. If you do NOT receive a report you need to follow up with a phone call to their customer service Helpline at: 866.387.2601.
  2. Financial aid funds for the Lower School are very limited. If you are considering applying for financial aid at the Lower School, please note that it is on a first come first serve basis and depends on available space.
  3. Contact Lynda Kleinrichert, Director of Financial Aid at 954.247.0011, Ext 314 or via email at kleinrichertl@nbps.org for additional help or information.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does North Broward offer Merit, Athletic, or Fine Arts scholarships?

NBPS offers one scholarship program, the Academic Honors Scholarship program for entering 9th graders. For more information, contact Jackie Fagan, Director of Admissions, at 954.247.0011 ext. 350 or by email: faganj@nbps.org.

I am not sure if our family will qualify for Financial Aid. Is it worth applying?

If you are unsure whether or not you will qualify, you may contact Lynda Kleinrichert, Director of Financial Aid, at 954.247.0011 ext. 314 for advice.

When will we be notified if we have received an award?

Families are notified once the completed financial aid documents (processed SSS, current tax forms with W-2 and last 3 months of credit card and bank statements) are submitted and a decision is determined by the Financial Aid committee.

Will applying for Financial Aid affect my child’s chances for admission?

No. Students are admitted to NBPS based on their academic ability, not their financial status. Admission decisions are made separately from Financial Aid decisions. Students must be accepted to NBPS prior to applying or being granted financial aid.

Will my child’s Financial Aid award change from year to year?
Families must file with the SSS each year. Financial Aid is recalculated each year using current information. If your financial situation has changed, then your financial award may change. Each year current tax forms and W-2 forms must be submitted to the Director of Financial Aid.
