Lighthouse Point Academy Admissions

The admissions process begins with a visit to our school. During the visit, the parents and applicant are given a tour and a packet containing all required application material.

The admissions procedure for the Lighthouse Point Academy Lower (Grades 4 and 5) and Upper Schools (Grades 6-12) requires a psycho-educational evaluation. This evaluation enables the LPA Admissions Committee to determine the appropriateness of our program for your child. We are especially interested in a complete assessment of the type and degree of your child’s learning disability. This assessment must be done by a qualified professional within two years of application to LPA. The assessment must include the detailed subtests of the following:

  1. Results of Diagnostic Interview must include:
    a) Cognitive Testing
    b) Achievement Testing
    c) Psycho-social  Evaluation
  2. Measures of information processing: These instruments should evaluate processing speed, auditory processing, visual-motor speed and processing, and both long and short term memory.
  3. Assessments to rule in or out Attention Deficit Disorder, with scores that reflect both objective and subjective criteria.  Examples are: Acters, Conners, Gordon Diagnostic and TOVA.  Results must include a specific diagnosis and actual test scores must be included (standard & percentile scores are acceptable).
  4. Schedule a personal interview to take place on campus.  Parents may arrange to speak with a representative of the faculty or administration while their child is being interviewed.
  5. The head of school recommendation is required. A principal or assistant principal may complete the head of school recommendation form. You may also request a current teacher to complete the teacher recommendation form, however this is optional.  Please provide postage and envelopes to your current school to ensure the references’ arrival to the Admissions Office.
  6. Provide copies of report cards, including current mid-year grades and last year's grades along with a record of standardized testing for the past year. Please request this from the current school. A request for records form is provided for your convenience to submit to your current school.

The North Broward Preparatory Schools continually strive to update the accuracy of all written materials, including, but not limited to, promotional information, brochures, handbooks, and advertising. In an effort to do so, however, information included in the materials (including, but not limited to, class sizes, student-to-teacher ratios, teacher qualifications and specialization, teacher tenure, etc.) may change as our programs grow and develop and as our staff changes. Prior to relying on any written materials in making your decision to enroll or re-enroll your child(ren) in The North Broward Preparatory Schools, please verify the accuracy of information with the Headmaster. Please also understand that even if the information was accurate at the time that you enrolled or re-enrolled your child(ren), the information may have changed prior to commencement of classes or during attendance at the school. Please also note that only the Head of the School in which your child(ren) are enrolling have the authority to make commitments regarding the nature of the program, specific arrangements for your child(ren), or other changes from the school's regular curriculum.
